Keep Calm and Call Docherty: 2016 Year in Review

Posted On: December 29, 2016

By all accounts, 2016 has been a year that will be difficult to forget. Maybe your memories of the year can be summed up in one word:

  • Prince
  • Cubs
  • Brexit
  • Trump

Perhaps you’re counting down the days until you can ring in the New Year and say goodbye to 2016 for good. At Docherty Incentives & Meetings, however, 2016 has been another banner year and for that we are so grateful. For over 30 years we’ve had the pleasure of working with longstanding, loyal clients and welcoming new ones along the way. No matter if we’re working in our Minneapolis office, volunteering at a local charity or cruising around the Greek Isles, our staff is always thinking of creative ways to help our clients make the most of their travel incentive programs and experiences.

2016 Highlights: The More You Know

Started in 2014, the Docherty blog has been a fantastic way for us to have an ongoing conversation with our clients, partners, fans and followers. Our decades of experience has taught us that sharing the latest tips, trends and travel news is one of the best ways to support them. That, and planning innovative trips to amazing destinations worldwide!

This year, Docherty Incentives & Meetings wrote about a range of topics from the importance of having an effective employee recognition program to how to engage employees across different generations to a top-10 list of what to pack for international travel.

Here are the top 5 blogs that got the most interest from our readers in 2016:

Top 5 Things Employees Don’t Like About Their Workplace
Top 10 Best Rewards for Employees in 2016
5 Signs of Excellent Meeting and Event Planners
Ideas for Great Sales Meetings
Top 10 Things to Pack for International Travel

Our posts continued to cover a variety of topics, including why and how to incorporate travel into your meeting schedule and incentive program, how to prepare for and make the most of your trips and where to travel. While we’re here to plan every step of an off-site meeting or incentive trip, we believe that the more you know, the better we can work together to support you and your employees.

Here’s how to engage everyone from Baby Boomers to Millennials. Wondering why recognizing your employees’ hard work is so critical for the health of your company? Take a look at our post from October when we explored the importance of giving thanks. All our blog posts are on our website and posted on our Facebook page and on LinkedIn.

Oh! The Places You’ll Go!

If you’ve seen our Facebook posts and photos, then you may be wondering how many miles we’ve logged exploring destinations for premier travel rewards destinations. This year, our crew flew nearly 200,000 miles scouting out exotic islands, ancient ruins and vibrant cities to find a variety of travel possibilities for our clients.

We’ve traversed the United States, explored Puerto Rico, Antigua, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Dubai, Canada, Monte Carlo and France. We even cruised the Greek Isles and the Caribbean.

Our team attended the IMEX trade show in Las Vegas. No matter where we were, we were thinking of our clients. We searched spots in Spain for the most delicious tapas, explored the Canadian Rockies for top ski slopes and scouted the Dominican Republic for world-class golf courses. Despite the number of travel miles we logged in 2016, our team still found time to contribute to Comic Relief, a charity that raises money to combat poverty, and to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children where we packed meals to send to malnourished children around the world. We also sponsor two children in Mozambique through World Vision. Through our travels, we’re reminded of how great the world really is and how much we can do to help others.

Looking ahead to 2017, the team at Docherty will continue to explore new vistas as well as some old favorites to provide our clients with a variety of options for their travel incentive rewards programs. We know how valuable an off-site meeting or a travel reward can be for your company morale: investing in your employees will pay off for years to come.

No matter what happens in the coming year, the Docherty team will continue being thankful for our amazing clients and the relationships we’ve established and most especially for the opportunities to create incentive trips that exceed your expectations. We look forward to logging more travel miles and continuing to distinguish ourselves as one of the best incentive marketing and global event management companies in the business. As always, Docherty Incentives & Meetings is committed to offering you the best ways to motivate, recognize and reward your employees.
